Dashboard fastening: BMW 5
Light-weight designs are increasing important, particularly in the automotive industry. The logical consequence of this is that we too have to develop alternatives to our fasteners.
Our ”plastic in plastic” fasteners enable the production of sturdy, captive fasteners for plastic components.
BMW have recognised these advantages and already use a ”plastic in plastic” screw DL6 L12 in their dashboard mounting support. The benefits are obvious:

  • Reverse lock (vibration proof)
  • Weight reduction
  • Recyclability
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Electro-magnetic compatibility
  • Chemical resistance
  • Temperature resistance up to 160°C

The thread geometry and cutting edge design lead the screw to cut its own thread into the existing cylindrical bore hole. The screw is made from high tensile, gas-filled plastic.

The relaxation of the carrier material in the longitudinal groove of the screw generates the reverse lock. Clamping fins beneath the screw head guarantee automatic centring of the components to be fastened.

Attachment of water reservoir for Mercedes HGV

The customer was originally looking for a more cost-efficient alternative of attaching the upper part of the water reservoir.

The advantages of our ”plastic in plastic” fasteners for this application quickly became apparent.

We then developed a specific solution for our customer.
