orange square RIVSET®-punch rivet system CTF

Release: september 2002

Process-reliable, flexible, future-orientated

New materials and design principles - in the automobile industry in particular - also present new requirements and demands where connecting technology is concerned. As a result, traditional processes such as welding or threaded connections are being increasingly replaced by mechanical joining methods. The company division System Technology of the Böllhoff Group (Bielefeld, Germany) is among the very few manufacturers who have indepth experience and competence in both joining methods (clinching and punch rivet systems). With the new RIVSET punch rivet system CTF (classical tape feed), the company is presenting an easy-to-use processing system for magazined punch rivets in belt tapes at the Hanover Fair. The product itself is specially designed for small and medium-sized companies.
Mechanical joining from Böllhoff Systemtechnik has two names: RIVSET punch rivet technology and RIVCLINCH full penetration joining. Both methods provide for the perfect joining of sheet metals or profiles and are gaining increasing significance in mechanical joining applications. Böllhoff recognised and undertook this development at a very early stage and, in 1990, the company established punch rivet technology bearing the name RIVSET. The connections are created in one working operation without preliminary boring (even with different types of materials), and are highly stable and seal-tight against liquids.
In order to enhance the method with a further field of application, and in addition to the comprehensive solution for loose punch rivets in large series construction, Böllhoff - with the CTF system - has now developed a particularly inexpensive and easy-to-handle system for the small and medium-size production series. With this method, rivets are processed which are magazined on a belt tape. Here, the combined rivet feed and the setting mechanism ensure maximum process reliability with minimum material wear. A further advantage: the compact and enclosed sethead leads to optimal accessibility of the rivet locations and facilitates processing in all positions and levels.

In addition, Böllhoff has paid particular attention to maximum flexibility in the design of the new punch rivet system. The system also includes the option of quickly changing over to a different rivet geometry. The setting force can reach up to 50 kN and is reliably produced by way of relay-controlled hydraulic units. The compact system works with very low noise levels and involves low energy costs
